| General information about Soriano: Soriano, department of Uruguay. Its capital is Mercedes. Located in the western coastal area, bordered to the north by the department of Río Negro, east of Flores with the southern boundary of Colonia, and on the west by the Argentine Republic, which is separated by the Uruguay River. It also has a small place of contact with San Jose in the southeast. His oldest population, Villa Soriano, which is the name given to the department. Located almost at the mouth of the Río Negro with the Uruguay River, was founded by the Jesuits as a reduction in 1624 under the name Santo Domingo Soriano, making it the oldest in the country, although there were discontinuities in their existence.
