| General information about Montevideo: Montevideo, Uruguay department. Its capital is the eponymous city, capital of the country. Located in the southern part of Spain, on shores of the River Plate, owes its place at the port, located in the bay of Montevideo. Bordered on the northwest by San Jose and is surrounded by the department of Canelones. About 60% is rural and the remaining 40% urbanized area or potentially urbanizable. Its maximum elevation is the Cerro de Montevideo, with 132 meters. With approximately 40% of the country's total population, is the smallest department in terms of area and the most densely populated.
